Last rehearsal before we sing for the congregation next week on Palm Sunday. So, what do you do on your last rehearsal before a presentation?
YOU DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON.
So that is what we did. Well, after our little warm up. One of the sweetest kiddos with the cutest little mouth that turns up on one side when he is concentrating on singing broke his collar bone and was in a sling and just generally deserving of some extra attention, so I chose him to draw from my tongue depressor sticks to pick a syllable for us to sing our warm up on. He randomly drew “toe”. That is really one of the kids’ favorites. So we sang Toe Toe Toe Toe Toe Toe Toe up and down the warm up scale.
Our regular accompanist extraordinaire came to rehearsal and played the keyboard for us, so she would know exactly what to do. And we are going to have one of the other moms who plays the violin also accompany us for the first time, so she came, too.
We didn’t stop, but you know what? I was the one that really got us off track. I messed up “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” a lot. I thought it had a chorus and it doesn’t. But we kept going. And I’ll make sure I’m more prepared next week.
We don’t know all 4 verses of our last song (“All, Glory, Laud, and Honor”), so the worship team plans to signal for the congregation to stand and join us on the last two verses. This is a great way to get your kids up in your worship service even if they aren’t able to learn an entire song. I taught them an old trick I learned somewhere. When you don’t know the words to a song, if you just silently mouth the word “watermelon”, it looks like you are singing!
