Great Prizes For Children’s Choirs

You might want to offer some little prizes to the children in your choir. Here are some great items to stock your prize box.

I have used the little prizes for attendance streaks and for memorization activities.  I’ve had the kids memorize and recite the books of the Bible to me and they got a larger prize (see bottom of list).

Let’s start with FREE (or almost free)

I love these free scripture coloring sheets from FishBowlFamily. Her whole site is great.  She offers 40 different coloring sheets for free in the resource library of her website. You just have to give you email to have access.  These sheets are especially a hit with older kids.

You could purchase a binder for the kids to bring back and forth to church and just add the pages to the binders each week.  Toss in a pencil pouch if you want to really make this into big deal.

Inexpensive Prize Box Gifts

Ten-Color Pens are my FAVORITE thing to give to little kids.  My own children have several of these.  They bring one in their little Bible carriers each week to church.  Great doodle tool, and isn’t a giant bag of crayons or colored pencils that get exploded, er, I mean spread out over the pew at church.  10 colors, 1 thing to carry.  #momgoals

My next favorite prize box idea that is very inexpensive is a little mini flashlight.  I like this because it is actually useful.  Kids like to go to bed with flashlights, right?  Mine do.  I would love it if my kids came home from their elementary school with something actually useful when it is prize box day instead of the nasty “stretchy hand that sticks to glass”.

Stickers are a very inexpensive way to go.  Little kids love stickers.  Beware of really dumb messages on some of the larger bulk packs.  But likely any generic bulk set of sticker sheets will have plenty to satisfy the crowd AND teacher.

These little bookmarks are great for use as Bible bookmarks.  My daughter loves these scratch off things in any shape or form.  One issue with this bulk set is that there are not enough of the wooden scratch sticks.  But the kids can always use a penny or their finger nail or retracted ball point pen.

Middle Range Prize Box Gifts

If your budget is a bit bigger or if you have an occasion to give a bit larger gift, consider these options.

These interesting sticker books contain 10 sheets of different designs that are created as the stickers are placed in the correct spots. It is like color-by-number but with stickers.  You could remove these sheets from the book binding and hand one out per child to make it an inexpensive gift.  Or give the entire book to one child.

A great gift for slightly older kids is the Pray Like This prayer journal.  The author says it is for 7-10 year olds.  This journal is creative and playful but is also a useful tool.  My oldest son keeps it in his Bible carrier and does one page each Sunday during worship.

Higher Priced Large Gifts

You might have occasion to give something really special.  I have let the children in my choir choose between these CDs when they were able to come to me and recite all the books of the Bible.

This is the CD we used to teach the Old and New Testament.  I love ALL the CDs put out by Randall Goodgame and Slugs and Bugs.  The yellow one is the one with the Old Testament Song and The New Testament Song on it, but all the CDs are good.

For their reward for reciting the Books of The Bible, if the kids in my choir didn’t want a music CD, I offered another personal favorite of our family — Adventures In Odyssey.  There are countless ones to choose from.  My kids have a huge collection of these and play them at night as they fall asleep.
